What are the essential tools for Novice Bakers?

Baking for beginners is not enough with just an oven.
Timexing tells you what other right tools you need to be a novice baker, follow me!

  • Baking tray / Baking net / Anti-burning glove

This three-piece set is usually provided when you buy a steam oven, but you need to focus on the quality of the baking tray and the anti-burning glove.

Most bread, biscuits and cakes need to be baked on a baking tray, so have 2 or more.

There are many shapes to choose from and they are heat resistant, waterproof and breathable.

  • Specialised thermometers

When using a steam oven for the first time, it is important to measure its temperature accurately (there are always deviations in the internal temperature) to achieve better baking results.

  • Weighing tool

Baking is all about quantity and the proportions of each ingredient, so weighing tools are essential!

A. Electronic kitchen scales / a special electronic scale made of stainless steel (corrosion resistant and easy to clean), with an accuracy of 1g and a tare function.

B. Measuring cups and spoons / The measuring spoons come in a set of 4, 1 large, 1 small, 1/2 small and 1/4 small spoons, which are very convenient when measuring various powders.

  • Egg Beater

A whisk is required for whipping butter, cream, mixing wet ingredients, eggs, etc. It is best to have both a manual and an electric whisk.

Even though an electric whisk is quicker and more energy efficient, a hand whisk is more convenient when only mixing or mixing a small amount of butter.

  • Spatula & Scraper

Spatula is a flat, soft spatula that can be used to stir the batter, scrape the batter from the walls of the bowl, etc.

Scraper is used to scoop out dough that has stuck to the board and to help transfer small dough balls to the baking tray.

The two are not interchangeable. Choose a rigid silicone scraper for the material.

  • Flour sieves

Sifting the flour not only removes small particles of flour, but also makes the flour more puffy and easier to mix.

For desserts such as cakes and biscuits, a 40 or 60 mesh flour sieve is preferable.

  • Mixing bowl

Mixing bowl is used to load containers for beaten egg liquid and grease, and has a high usage rate.
At least two or more are equipped, preferably stainless steel and glass products, and the shape is a cylindrical round basin, which is more convenient for operation and use.

  • Various moulds

There are so many different types, shapes and materials of baking moulds. As a beginner, we only need to know how to choose.

Size / 6″ for 2-3 people, 8″ for 4 or more

Shape /  Although there are many baking mould shapes (heart, square, round, etc.), as a base you can start with a round shape.

Other / Choose a cake mould with a live bottom for easy release, as for stainless steel or non-stick coating, let’s analyse the specific advantages and disadvantages.

  • Summary

These are only the basic tools to get started, except for Premium baking where you need to know about ingredients, recipes, processes and more.
It’s a long road to baking, but it’s great to taste DIY food!

Well Done
